Law Practice

Hal has been with Farleigh Wada Witt since 1991 and practices in the firm's Financial Services and Debtor/Creditor groups. He represents credit unions, banks, and other financial service providers on state and federal regulatory compliance matters, formation and operation of subsidiaries, contract negotiation and dispute resolution, bankruptcy and collection, and other issues related to structuring and delivering financial services to consumers and businesses.

Hal has a special expertise in payment systems issues, helping clients navigate Uniform Commercial Code Articles 3, 4, and 4A, the NACHA rules, and various Federal Reserve rules and circulars. He provides consumer and business loan and deposit account documentation and disclosures, and helps clients resolve account disputes and other operational challenges.

Speaking Engagements

Hal frequently conducts seminars, training sessions, and webinars on regulatory compliance and operational matters for the Northwest Credit Union Association, Credit Union National Association councils, and other trade groups and financial service providers.

Community Involvement

Hal has provided pro bono client representation for many years through the Oregon State Bar's pro bono bankruptcy clinic. He serves on the Oregon Lawyers Against Hunger board and spearheads the firm's annual OLAH food drive. Hal is a member of the Consumer Financial Services and Credit Union committees of the American Bar Association.

Personal

Hal is married and has three children. He enjoys basketball, reading, running, and playing guitar.
